Developing ideas

As well as creating advertising, marketing materials, branding, brand development and the graphic styling for web sites for my direct clients, I also help advertising & design agencies when they need extra help. This can be anything from a complete project to developing headlines for concepts that they have already come up with.

On larger projects I am often asked to help with the presentation, or pitch, to their client. This can either involve working along side the agency team and taking part in the presentation or helping them put the pitch together, including giving them additional presentation skills training specific to this particular presentation.

Some clients and agencies also find it useful to use my talents as the facilitator of ‘think tanks’ to develop creative thinking for all sorts of purposes. This can take place in the client’s office or in a meeting room away from the distractions and familiar surroundings of the normal working day.

At a time when the global recession is causing budgets to shrink and cost cutting measures are being implemented, it is more important than ever to be able to come up with ideas that are innovative, while being extremely cost effective.

Creative thinking is therefore one of the most valuable tools that we all need to continually develop. As well as being useful in advertising, design and marketing, it can help nearly every aspect of any business.

I am often called in to see the owner of a business who says; “they need more sales and that their advertising isn’t working”. However, although the advertising may not be brilliant, that is often not the cause of the problem. It can be the packaging, the branding, the sales process and sometimes the product it’s self that needs looking at. And that can be true even when there is not a physical product, the selling of services are often poorly ‘packaged’.
